Signs of Dyslexia in Adults |
If several of these "Symptoms" occur together, further advice should be sought.
|
1. |
Those who have not had the right help may be covering up their difficulties and compensating in all sorts of ways - e.g. taking home forms to fill in, not writing letters, etc. |
2. |
They may still have great difficulties in taking instructions, in following conversations where the subject is changed, or in listening and taking notes in a meeting. |
3. |
They often say a similar word instead of the correct one; they have never heard it correctly in the first place and cannot get their tongue round it properly e.g. 'cerstificate' instead of certificate, 'pacific' instead of specific. |
4. |
They may have problems in putting across their ideas to other people. |
5. |
They often pay bills with cash so as not to use a chequebook. |
6. |
They may have problems reading maps and following directions. |
7. |
They will often avoid promotion in case their reading and spelling difficulties come to light. |
8. |
They may take unfulfilling jobs well below their capabilities, to avoid having to read, write things down or sometimes count. |
9. |
They may find difficulty in remembering appointments, getting to lectures at College on time, managing their time generally. |
